A player wins a battle by destroying much more towers than the opponent, or by destroying the opponent's "King's Tower", which grants an automatic 3 "crown" victory.

Players battle via 11 arenas (excluding Training Camp), each requiring a particular amount of trophies. The 11 Arenas are Goblin Stadium, Bone Pit, Barbarian Bowl, P.E.K.K.A's Playhouse, Spell Valley, Builder's Workshop, Royal Arena, Frozen Peak, Jungle Arena, Hog Mountain and Legendary Arena.

Cards

At the begin of every game, both players are offered a "hand" of four cards from a "deck" of eight cards selected by the player. There are 73 cards in the game presently. Cards come in four rarities : Typical, Uncommon, Epic and Legendary. Cards can be used to attack and defend. To play the cards, the player must have enough "elixir", one elixir automatically being replenished each 2.8 seconds (each 1.4 seconds during 'Double Elixir', throughout the last 60 seconds of the game). As soon as a card is placed, a new card from the deck is drawn to the hand.

Currency

As a totally free-to-play game, Clash Royale provides players the capability to purchase "gems" in the card shop using currency. "Gems" can be used to start tournaments, enter challenges, and purchase chests, cards, and gold from the shop.

Chests

Chests take a particular amount of time to unlock: Silver Chests take 3 hours to unlock, Golden Chests take eight hours, Giant, Magical and Epic Chests take 12 hours, whilst Super Magical and Legendary Chests take 24 hours. Gems may be used to speed up unlocking or can be used to buy a chest. Chests contain cards and gold, and free chests and crown chests will also include gems. A player can hold a maximum of 4 chests at one time to open up chest slots, a chest will require to be opened.[7] Free chests are also offered to the player once each 4 hours, and only two of these can be stored. Every 24 hours, the player also has the opportunity to win a Crown Chest by claiming 10 "crowns" from battle victories. A Clan Chest seems from Friday midnight to Monday midnight (time varies for various countries). There are ten stages to it, with each stage increasing the reward. Crown chests are only allowed to be stacked twice. Both the Free Chests and Crown Chests can be unlocked instantly.

Clans Gameplay of the Clan Battles Gamemode a 4 individual clan vs. clan gamemode.

From level one, players can type and join clans. Clan members may engage in "friendly battles" with one another, the outcome of which does not affect trophies or chests but does nevertheless, contribute to the 'practice with friends' achievement. The "friendly battle" function enables for live spectating from other clanmates. Clan members might also donate or request cards from one another starting from level three. Joining a clan enables you to take part in "Clan Chest" (exactly where you earn crowns with your clan) and "Clan Battles"(exactly where you battle against another clan with your clanmate) These two clan-bonding activities are alternate.
